Pathway Of Hope Community

Locations: Washington, IL & Makambako/Mtwango, Tanzania

Pathway of Hope Community is partnering with the International Gospel Center Church (IGCC) in Makambako, Tanzania to bring Jesus’ hope and holistic education to the community. We work alongside them with respect and dignity through the lens of Jesus’ love.

We believe in a different approach to developing a community. We don’t take the word “partnering” lightly. We want to empower them to see their potential that they can be the solution. This, in turn, boosts self esteem, increases pride in accomplishment and a sense of connectedness and ownership. We see ourselves as “cheerleaders”, finding and encouraging their gifts, talents and resources to find solutions, thereby creating sustainability within the country without sole reliance on outside aid that can be a cause of an unhealthy dependence on others.

We believe deep transformational change of the heart is done through the redemptive story of Jesus and developed with believers of the local church. By recognizing the brokenness of the world is because of sin, we find common ground with our brothers and sisters. This awareness can change a community and beyond, one heart at a time, one relationship at a time.

How will we do all this? We do this in various ways such as taking teams to Tanzania to encourage the church members and community, ongoing training and teaching, assisting with building projects, leading Bible lessons, activities and games for the children, developing relationships and building a primary school.

Our first trip was in 2022. Makambako, where the IGC Church is located, is in the southwestern part of Tanzania bordering Malawi. It is called the “Southern Highlands” by the locals. The census from 2022 has the population of the town and district at 146,400+ and it is growing. It is situated in beautiful mountains and has an elevation of 5,407 feet.

Some verses that guide and push us on this journey of helping others:

John 15:16 I chose you from the world, that you may go and bear fruit that will last, says the Lord.

Galatians 6:9 Let us not grow weary in doing good, for at the proper time, we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
